Islamabad April 29, 2015 Hashoo Foundation, in collaboration with Rotary Books for the World Program, held its Rotary Books distribution ceremony at Umeed-e-Noor in Islamabad today. The focus of this event was to contribute in improving literacy efforts across Pakistan by distributing books and educational material among educational institutes and libraries.
Rotary Books for the World and The Second Wind Foundation donated 200,000 books which Hashoo Foundation actively assisted in sorting and then distributing at the event.
Commenting on this year’s books distribution, Chief Guest Ms. Nafeesa Khattak, Member of National Assembly, emphasized the importance of education and appreciated Hashoo Foundation’s efforts to aid literacy in Pakistan. “One of our main focus as a nation is to eradicate literacy and we need to take concrete steps at the grassroots level towards this aim. I appreciate Hashoo Foundation’s commitment and believe that this this initiative will go a long way towards the fulfillment of our aim. I will urge more institutions and organization to dedicate resource in order to uproot illiteracy from Pakistan”, she said.
Ali Akbar, Country Director, Hashoo Foundation said “Hashoo Foundation is committed to eliminate illiteracy from Pakistan and is running numerous projects to achieve this objective. We are focused and committed towards our youth and we believe in investing in them for a better Pakistan.”
Pakistan’s commitment towards the Millennium Development Goal ’Education For All’ is a challenge in a scenario where there are so many impediments in the educational system. Hashoo Foundation has undertaken initiatives like Youth Development Centers and Scholarship programs to overcome these impediments.
