HF schools were formally initiated in 2002 under Education program, in collaboration with Hashoo Group and British Petroleum . The inspiration for this program came from the Chairman of Hashoo Foundation who was keen to provide access to quality education to poor/out of school children.
Area of intervention
14 schools (of primary level) were established through this initiative throughout Pakistan including Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
A huge investment occurred in this program where children were facilitated with free uniform, books even with food. The schools were started in rented buildings (except four schools in Sindh that were established on land donated to HF) with all the facilitation from HF’s end.
Later in 2009 and after a prolonged period of full financial and management facilitation, a nominal fee structure was introduced to help pave the way for their long-term sustainability. However, a change in the primary focus of HF eventually led the Foundation to initiate an exit strategy. Hence from 2010, the Foundation began to hand over its schools to suitably equipped local CBOs/ organizations. This process will be completed by the end of this year.
