Establishment of two Human Development Resource Centres – Nar Sher Ali Khan (Bagh)

Overview

The project titled ‘Establishment of two Human Development Resource Centres – Nar Sher Ali Khan (Bagh)’ was a three year project, started in June 2011 and concluded in October 2014. , With financial assistance by Reach out to Asia, the project’s specific objective was to provide appropriate skill trainings to 2,000 unskilled and unemployed men & women (1,000 men &, 1,000 women) in Nar Sher Khan, along with creating market linkages for jobs or self-employment. Therefore, Hashoo Foundation established two vocational/technical centers called ‘Human Development Resource Centres’ (HDRCs). Each training centre offered 5 courses, which not only included vocational but also technical and agro-veterinary based trainings. The key interventions included; community mobilization, training, certification and linkages for placement of trainees with employers.

Achievements

  • A total of 2,093community members have been trained in 10 different trades including ICT, Carpentry, Building Electrician, Plumbing, Dairy & Livestock, Backyard Poultry Farming, Honey Bee Keeping, Vegetable Farming, Fruit Preservation and Tailoring & Embroidery.
  • Trainees were given certificates, which were certified by the Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (TVET, Ministry of Education, AJK)
  • From a study conducted by MEAL and project team jointly in October 2014, it was ascertained that 80% of the trainees had great aptitude for initiating their own businesses and the current trainings were useful in getting them decent jobs in local market.
